February 17 is the birthday of PTA.  Every February, PTA pays tribute to the Founders, a group of lay women who made it their business to ensure the lives and futures of all children are happy, safe, secure and productive. PTA also recognizes past and present PTA leaders and other supporters of education. Founders Day is a reminder of the substantial role PTA has played in working on behalf of all children and families and supporting parent involvement. It is a time to reflect upon -- and take pride in -- our many accomplishments, continue our work as strong advocates for public education and renew our commitment to be a powerful voice for all children and an important resource for parents.

Parents as Reading Partners, better known as PARP, is a state-wide program designed to promote family togetherness and develop an excitement for reading.  Parents are encouraged to read with their children at least 15 minutes each day. It is believed that when parents read with their children, the children develop a love for reading and it encourages them to become lifelong readers who read for their own pleasure and information.  When children become readers, their world is forever wider and richer.  Many teachers for the lower grades have parents or other loved ones come to the classroom once a month to snuggle with the children and read.
