About Us

Welcome to the 2009-20010 school year and to the Levy Lakeside PTA website. Many exciting activities and events are planned for the upcoming year. The Norman J. Levy Lakeside School PTA is an integral part of our school community. We work closely with parents, teachers, administrators, and the community to achieve the best educational opportunities for our children; quality education in Merrick is a cooperative effort.

Levy Lakeside PTA offers many programs. Among other things, we support school trips, in-school residencies, cultural arts events and the theatre group. We offer our teachers the opportunity to apply for Mini-Grants which allow them to incorporate a special project into a unit they may be teaching. Our newly updated Parent Library, located in the main office, provides resource materials for loan. This is all possible as a result of our fundraising activities; all proceeds benefit our children.

The PTA is also a valuable service organization. With the help of our dedicated parent volunteers, we run a successful lunch program. In September, our Safety and Security Committee Volunteer Chaperones cheerfully accompany our kindergarteners and first graders to their classes during the first two weeks of school and help all bussers and walkers at dismissal time. Our volunteers help with school art shows, music concerts and theatre productions. The list goes on…

PTA Mission

The mission of the PTA is threefold:

	To support and speak on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community, and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children;
	To assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children;
	To encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of this nation.
